LISTEN has the same letters as SILENT. Have you noticed?
Sometimes we just need space to be with ourselves, to sit in silence, to listen.
In all the busy-ness of the day, it can be easy to forget that the inner voices are chattering, thinking of things to do, reminding us of things we “should” be doing, shouting their worries and concerns.
It can be easy just to HEAR their fears and their worries, to get caught up and worry with them. Until we truly LISTEN, acknowledge and accept them, they may continue to chatter mindlessly without resolution.
Just as you would sit with a crying child and listen to his worries, so too can we patiently sit and listen to the worries of the inner voice. In this way, we can console rather than collude with ourselves, care rather than judge.
In listening we are honouring ourselves. From here, we can help identify what we want, what we need and what we love.
In a moment of stillness, we can give ourselves the gift of acknowledgement.
